ArteChouse opened in Washington DC in 2017 as an experimental space for immersive digital art, and expanded to NYC inside Chelsea Market in 2019. The lower-level space spans roughly 12,000 square feet, with floor-to-ceiling projection mapping, motion-responsive surfaces, and multiple themed rooms that work together as a single experience.
Programming rotates every few months — past exhibitions have featured Van Gogh immersive installations, ocean-themed projection mapping, abstract digital art environments, and collaborations with notable digital artists. The technical execution is consistently strong; ArteChouse runs more like a contemporary art venue than a photo museum, even though the photography angle remains a draw.
The space sits inside Chelsea Market — the converted Nabisco factory turned food hall that's one of the city's strongest casual food destinations. Combine ArteChouse with a Chelsea Market food crawl and you have a strong half-day for visitors interested in contemporary art and food culture. The High Line begins one block away (the elevated park starts at Gansevoort and runs north).
Plan 60-90 minutes for ArteChouse itself. Add 90 minutes for Chelsea Market dining. Photography is welcome throughout; the lighting and projections are designed to look good on camera. The bar (XR Cocktail Lab) serves cocktails with AR/digital interaction elements — gimmicky but well-executed.
